The Springfield Express put six points away with a sweep of the Dallas Snipers as they continue their quest for second place in the Mid-West Division and the first-round bye that goes with it.
The Snipers came back from a 4-2 third-period deficit to force overtime on Friday only to fall short in a shootout, 5-4.
Dallas net-minder Alexander Moustakis made 23 of his 46 saves in the third period while Nicholas Bretzger made 30 saves for Springfield, including seven in overtime.
Nathaniel Sepeda and Michael Tugo each figured in all four Dallas goals, scoring two apiece and assisting on the other two.
Robert Horak scored twice for the Express, including the goal that gave them a two-goal lead in the third period.
Dallas led, 3-2, in the third period of Saturday’s game, but Springfield rallied in front of their home fans to win, 5-3.
Jack Nevicosi had a goal and two assists for the Express and Samuel Cyr-Ledoux assisted on three goals for Springfield. Derek Smith scored the game-winner.
Moustakis made 41 more saves for the Snipers while Bretzger again picked up the win for Sprigfield, making 27 saves.
Following two close games, Springfield blew the Snipers out, 14-1, on Sunday.
The Express scored eight goals in the second period alone. Nevicosi led the attack with four goals. Tyson Klingspohn netted a pair, and Linus Dahlberg had a goal and four assists. Robert Horak and Michael Stovall also had four helpers in the game.
