The Dallas Snipers are looking for host families (billets) interested in joining our team for the 2018/2019 season. Our players are unpaid amateurs who are looking to pursue a future career in collegiate hockey and pro hockey. In most cases this means moving away from home, going to a new school, and living with a family they don’t know. We recruit players from all over the world. During the 2017/2018 season the Snipers had players from 8 different countries. We are looking for local families who are willing to open their homes to these exceptional young men. Players live with their host family throughout the season, while either working on school or working part-time jobs.
Players arrive in late August and leave by April, possibly earlier it depends on the Snipers playoff run. Because these are teenagers who are far from home, it is important to the organization, as well as the Western States Tier II Hockey League (WSHL II), to provide them with a stable and comfortable environment during their time in Dallas. Therefore, the Snipers look for families that demonstrate a well-balanced family-oriented life style. The Dallas Snipers Organization wants families who are interested in building a lasting relationship with these young men as they attempt to reach their goals and dreams in hockey, school, and their future.
There are very few requirements for housing a player. We ask that the families live within a reasonable distance of the Dr. Pepper Star Center in Plano. The Snipers ask that you provide a separate bedroom and daily meals for the player. Each family receives a monthly stipend of $300 a month per player they house, as well as season tickets to our home games at the Dr. Pepper Star Center in Plano.
Players often provide their own vehicle, or means of transportation, and cell phones. Host families are expected to support the Snipers program and to support the players in following team rules. The players, in addition to adhering to team rules, must adapt to the rules that are set forth by the host family. In compliance with league rules, all host families must pass a criminal background check. Housing a player is a commitment. A strong housing program is an asset to recruiting young men to play for our organization. Parents want to know that while their son is away from home, he will live with a caring family that looks out for his best interests. Host Families are a vital part of the hockey experience for our young players. A good host family impacts the player on and off the ice.
Many players remain in contact with their host families long after they have moved on in their career. Snipers players make excellent role models for young hockey players aspiring to play at higher levels. They are outstanding student athletes and are committed to their goals and their team. Housing families will become second families to our players
