VAIL RECAP

The Dallas Snipers traveled 32 hours total to play 3 games against the new expansion franchise Vail Powder Hounds.  The Snipers have been to Colorado to play games the last 4 seasons, Davis and his staff knew the main challenge was elevation difference for their club. The Snipers ended up taking 2 of 3 from the Powder Hounds over the weekend.

Friday Recap

    The Dallas Snipers came out and scored the first goal of the season. Peter Kutlak chipped a puck into the neutral zone that Snipers Forward Ingus Matins picked up and burned the defensemen to score on a breakaway to give the Snipers a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. The Snipers struggled in the 2nd period with the long change and wind up giving up 3 unanswered goals with in the last 10 minutes of the period and trailed 3-1 after 40 minutes. At 15:22 of the 3rd forward Drake Cole made it 4 unanswered and it was a 4-1 lead for Vail. At 11:11 of the second period the Snipers Alternate Captain Daniel Nordlander answered back with a coast to coast to swing and buried it blocker side low on the Vail netminder. Unfortunately, that would end the scoring and the final was 4-2 Powder Hounds. The Snipers are 0-6 in season openers in franchise history.

Saturday Recap

    During the first 20 minutes on Saturday the Snipers struggled as well to keep up with the Powder Hounds. They trailed 1-0 after the 1st period. After that period Coach Jaskiewicz sent the team a challenge. The team responded with 4 unanswered goals in the 2nd period. Snipers 4th line forward Jason Moore responded to Jaskiewicz’s challenge and scored 2 of the 4 goals with a tip in front and a bar down snipe from the left circle. “I was proud of how Jason played, he has come in since day one of camp and just competed 100%. He is very deserving of his reward,” stated Jaskiewicz. Ingus Matins was also another huge contributor to the Snipers success with 3 assists. The Snipers struggled to start the third and Vail made it a 4 – 3 game. The Snipers responded with 3 unanswered goals and won 7-3 against Vail. Alex Moustakis got his first win of the season to even his record at 1-1.

Sunday Recap

    By Sunday vails roster was shorten and they just struggled with depth. The Snipers cruised to victory by a score of 7-1. Sasha Yunanov, Peter Kutlak and TJ Wisegarver each had 3 points in the victory. Brady Weiss got his first start of the season. Last season, as a 16-year-old Weiss impressed Davis. It was an easy decision to resign him,” stated Davis. Sunday’s performance proved it. “He made a few saves that you just sit back and say I’m glad he is my goalie,” stated Jaskiewicz.

    The Snipers will practice this week and will have an off weekend before traveling to Tulsa to take on the Jr. Oilers. Check out the latest Snipers information at their twitter feed.
