Snipers take 2 of 3 from Oilers

The Dallas Snipers moved into a tie with the Tulsa for fourth place in the Mid-West Division by winning two of three games against the Jr. Oilers.  The Snipers have three games in hand on Tulsa, giving them the inside track on the final home ice spot for the division quarterfinals.

The overtime thrillers around the WSHL continued Friday night in Dallas as Matej Pavlovsky scored his second goal of the game in the second overtime to give the Snipers a 3-2 win in front of their home crowd.

Winning goaltender Alexander Moustakis made 43 saves on 45 shots while Philip Babb made 34 saves for the Jr. Oilers, who picked up a big point in the standings for getting to OT.

The Snipers won in regulation Saturday, doubling up the Jr. Oilers by a score of 6-3.

Tulsa broke the ice with five minutes left in the first period, but Dallas responded just 54 seconds later.  The Jr. Oilers would not lead again in the game, although two goals from Maxim Chegrintcev 2:59 apart in the second period tied things up, 3-3.

Peter Kutlak scored the next two goals to give the Snipers a 5-3 lead and Alexander Yunanov’s second goal of the game sealed the deal.  Sterling Cooper also scored a pair for Dallas.

Brady Weiss entered the game in relief in the second period.  He stopped all 21 shots he faced in the third as the Jr. Oilers out-shot Dallas 21-6 in an attempt to come back.  Weiss finished with 31 saves.

Tulsa looked like they were going to cruise to victory on Sunday, scoring four times in each of the first two periods for an 8-2 lead after 40 minutes, but they ended up scrambling to sneak out of town with a 9-7 win.

Tyler Schultz scored Tulsa’s eighth goal of the game with five seconds left in the second period and it turned out to be the deciding goal after the Snipers struck for five goals in the third.

Scott Coash, Jr. netted a hat trick for Tulsa, the third coming with just 49 seconds left to make it 9-5, and picked up an assist.  Ivan Bukshevannyy (2-2-4) had four points and Samuel Hiserodt dished out three assists.

Michael Tugo figured in six of the Dallas goals, scoring two and setting up four others.  Alexander Yunanov had two goals and a pair of helpers.

The Snipers scored twice in the final 35 seconds for the 9-7 final.
