Snipers Add Top Prospect From Iceland
The Dallas Snipers of the Western States Hockey League are proud to announce the signing of Forward, Axel Orongan. Last season, he played for the Falu U18 Elit in Sweden and played for the U18, U20, and Mens World teams for his home country of Iceland. The skilled winger is looking forward to playing for the Snipers as well as asserting himself as a top player for the organization.
This is what Snipers Head Coach Aaron Davis had to say about Axel. “I watched Axel play for the U18 World team for Iceland and I was incredibly impressed with his speed and skill. He not only played for the U18 team but also for the U20 and the Mens team. He was the youngest player at the Mens World tournament and ended the tournament tied for second in goals and points for Team Iceland. I am incredibly excited to have the opportunity to coach this young man.”
A native of Iceland, Axel and his family flew into Dallas this week to visit the Snipers facilities and spend a week around the city of Dallas. The Snipers welcome all their prospects to visit Dallas if they like to spend some time around the city and give their prospects a tour of the facility. After spending the first few days in Dallas, Axel has officially signed with the Snipers for the 2018-2019 season.
“I got to spend all day on Tuesday with Axel and his family. His parents told me they have 3 sheets of ice in the entire country of Iceland. So, I took them to see 5 different sheets of ice in 3 hours. We spent time at the AAC, Dr Pepper Star Center in Frisco (Stars Practice Facility) and the Allen Event Center where the Allen Americans (ECHL) call home. While we were at the Frisco rink, I was showing Axel around and we ran into Dallas Stars GM, Jim Nill. Axel had no clue who he was once he walked past us, and I told him who it was his face lit up with excitement. It was a great experience for him to see what we have to offer players here in Dallas on and off the ice. Axel is the best 2001 in Iceland, we feel like he is an incredibly special talent. He spent the past two seasons developing in Sweden with Falu program and they have done an excellent job of developing him. This is a huge signing for our organization, we couldn’t be more excited for him to get back here in September,” stated Assistant Coach Matthew Jaskiewicz.
Here is what Axel had to say with about signing with Dallas. “I thought it would be fun to try something new and after I got to meet the coaching staff and some of my teammates I see myself having a great career here in Dallas”.
Axel will be wearing #9 for the Snipers this upcoming season. Axel will return in September to begin training camp with Dallas. The 5’10, 160-pound winger is looking forward to joining the Snipers Organization again for the 2018-2019 season. The Snipers will begin their 8th season of play during the 2018-2019 season.
